Celebrating Valborgsmässoafton in Taipei

A little while ago, the Swedish community in Taipei came together at DAMN Bar at Maji Square to celebrate Valborgsmässoafton (Walpurgis Night), one of Sweden’s most cherished spring traditions.

Even though it had been raining throughout the entire day, it did not stop our community from coming together for a lively afterwork where we could connect, enjoy good company, and celebrate a Swedish spring tradition together.

Our dear member, Chalmers International Taiwan Office (CITO) had prepared traditional Swedish songs, fun activities, and a classic Swedish “5-kamp”, a playful Swedish team competition made up of several small challenge games where groups compete together in different rounds.

Inside the venue, the games continued with plenty of laughter and enthusiasm. From “Chubby Bunny,” where participants try to fit more and more marshmallows into their mouths while still being able to speak, to the toilet paper challenge (as seen in the photos!), the evening quickly turned into a very fun and memorable celebration that continued late into the night.

What made the evening especially special was seeing so many people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate a Swedish tradition here in Taipei. That sense of openness, curiosity, and community is truly what these gatherings are all about.

A very big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special, especially our Young Professionals and Chalmers International Taiwan Office (CITO) for organizing the songs and games. And of course, a special thank you to Brandon Thompson and the entire DAMN team for hosting us with such warmth and open arms.
